In her first in-depth interview since being announced as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential contender, Vice President Kamala Harris defended her shifting views on climate change and border security on Thursday, as well as her pledge to nominate a Republican to her Cabinet.

According to Harris, the country is “ready for a new way forward,” and she blames Trump for dividing the country and advancing policies over the previous ten years that aim to “diminishing the character and the strength of who we are as Americans” and promoting an agenda.
“And I think people are ready to turn the page on that,” Harris stated.
Since taking the lead as the Democratic contender when Biden withdrew, Kamala Harris, who has risen in the polls since joining the 2024 campaign for president, has yet to hold a news conference.
Republican criticism increased when Walz entered the interview with Kamala Harris. Republican critics contended that her first interview as a candidate ought to have been conducted alone, despite the historical norm of conducting a joint interview with a running partner.
Harris stated that she had no remorse for standing up for the 81-year-old Biden’s mental health. Biden withdrew from the race in late June after giving a dismal debate performance against Trump that called into question his mental capacity.
“He is so smart and loyal to the American people,” remarked Harris. And I’ve been in the Situation Room or the Oval Office with him for many hours. He possesses the wisdom, determination, discernment, and demeanor that I believe the American people justly deserve in their president.”
With a jab at Trump following, Harris said, “By contrast, the former president has none of that.”
“This war has to end”
About Israel-Hamas, Harris states, “This war has to end.”
Harris reaffirmed her support for Israel in its fight against Hamas and stated that she opposed withholding American weaponry from Israel, despite the fact that pro-Palestinian demonstrators have been disrupting her campaign events more and more.
“Let me explain exactly. “It is my firm belief that Israel should be able to defend itself and that Israel’s defense needs to be unwavering,” Harris declared, adding that “far too many innocent Palestinians have been killed.”
“A deal needs to be made,” Harris declared. “This war must end.”
Harris denies that Trump has questioned her Black identity.
Harris, who is half Black and partly Indian-American, rejected Trump’s recent comments that called into doubt his Black racial identity.
The same old, worn-out playbook, Harris remarked. “Please move on to the next question.”
A Cabinet appointment made by a Republican?
Carrying over from last week’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Harris stated that if elected, she would want to appoint a Republican to the Cabinet. This would be her way of being president for “All Americans.”
Harris stated, “I think it’s really important.” “I have made it my job to welcome a range of viewpoints. I believe it is critical to have individuals with diverse perspectives and experiences around the table when some of the most significant choices are being made. Additionally, I believe that include a Republican in my Cabinet will benefit the American people.
When asked whether there was a specific Republican she would appoint, Harris responded, “none in particular.”
‘My values have not changed’: Harris responds to shifting positions on matters
While Harris was a U.S. senator from California and during her failed bid in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, Bash questioned her about how her views had evolved as a 2024 presidential contender.
For instance, although Harris spearheaded the Senate’s sponsorship of the Green New Deal, she has since distanced herself from some of the program’s most extreme provisions. She has since changed her mind and is against the prohibition of fracking as a method of extracting natural gas.
Bash was informed by Harris that his beliefs remain unchanged, which he believes to be the most crucial and noteworthy component of his policy approach and judgments.
First-day priority? The middle-class
“Day one” goals, according to Kamala Harris, would be to take steps to “support and strengthen the middle class.”
